I'm trying to create a referral form, and using the forms tool bar, trying to
insert a frame next to text; eg...
Name: (frame here)
Age: (frame here) etc etc...
Within the frame I'd like to insert a text form field, so that when I
protect form, the only spaces people can write, is in the boxes. Should be
normal stuff.
The problem I'm having is that my frame sits about 4.5cm away from my text,
and whenever I try to move it closer, the text jumps above/below/the other
side of my frame. I cannot seem to sort the wrapping or anchor out so that
it sits correctly.
Any suggestions? |

I would try a table instead of Frames for this exercise, you would have Name
and Age in one column and the response "frame" in the next column, you can
sort out the cell borders as you wish, but this will allow for greater
control of alignment.
Sometimes I have a very short row (ie 1mm or so) in between response rows,
for better layout and visial impact.

Hope this helps

I've tried that, but as the form goes on, it gets more complex, and as you
start to use it, the formatting goes to pot. I need something with more
control over formatting, hence the frames.

Can you explain how Frames has more control over tables with regards to
formatting? Do you mean Layout?
Even then tables can be constructed easily to do whatever Frames can. I only
use frames if I want a picture over riding a multi-column section or have
text box over the margin.
Also if you are constructing a Form, is this to be protected and restricted
for the user, then Frames may not work.

My problem with using a table is word wrapping, and the cells expanding to
fit text, which would make the rest of the form a few lines longer, which
would in turn mean they ended up split over the 2 columns on the page (A
large column for the form, a smaller one for instructions on filling in the
form.
I'm trying a different layout now, not using frames which seems to be
working fine at the moment.
With tables again, but different to how I had it last time!
Thanks anyway,
Jamie.

With tables you can dictate the rows height to an exact value so they wont
expand, as well as turning off Text Wrapping in the Cell dialog.

Which version of Word? Are you using Text Box Form Fields in your form
design? You can limit the number of characters & set the height & width of
the table rows/columns accordingly.
