Inserted photo doesn't display in Word 03

I have typed a Word 03 document, and I am trying to insert .jpg photos.
Whether I use Insert | picture | file or open the photo in a blank Word
document (no problem there!) and copy and paste it, all Word shows is a
very-light-gray image one line in height. When I click on it, Word shows me a
frame for a graphic, but the frame is empty. I can't figure out how to get
the photo to display, and Word won't let me move the frame, either.

The first symptom suggests that you've inserted the photo into a paragraph
with Exact line height. Change the line height to Single to solve that
problem. Then go to Tools | Options | View and clear the check box for
"Picture placeholders" in order to see the picture.
