Excel 2007 opens with blank screen, no toolbars at top, bottom status bar
appears at top and the page is frozen. All other products in Suite open
correctly although there does seem to be a short hesitation of a blank screen
before the correct display appears???
Running Vista Home Premium

I don't have an answer, JohnP, but you are not alone. I have the same
problem, intermittently. If I find the answer before anyone responds I'll
post it.

I have removed the html.xlam file and I still get the big blue blank screen with only a "ready" in top left.
On the very odd occasion it will open
Any one know a fix? |

I've had the same problems as well. I'm running Vista Ultimate. A screenshot of the problem is at: http://www.unc.edu/~scorcher/excel/
I tried deleting the file mentioned above, but it did nothing. Any other ideas? |

| Hold down the CTRL button while clicking on Excel, this will open it in safe mode. This will atleast get you into the program, until Mircosoft has a patch to fix the problem. |

| I tried safe mode via this method and via command line. It didn't help either. I'm talking to a friend who worked for MS this summer on Office 2007. They may have some ideas... |

On doing some research it seems that there is a possibility that this is a compatibility problem with Logitech.
http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=quickcam_so...are&
I tried using the Logitech update to update my software (ver. 11.1) and it told me I was up-to-date, but when I went to Logitech's website, there was version 11.5 available.
After updating to version 11.5, my Excel has opened correctly everytime.
Maybe this will help some of us with this issue. |

I managed to figure out what is causing this strange behavior and how to fix it. The problem stems from the change in the personal macro workbook. Microsoft has changed it to where it no longer has a XLS extension but instead had XLSB. I had recorded some macros when using Excel 2003. Whenever I upgraded to Excel 2007 it does not automatically upgrade your PERSONAL.XLS to the new format and extension. I tried just removing the file and sure enough everything performs as expected. I put it back and I get the same issues again.
I deleted the old XLS and decided to just start from scratch recording a macro in 2007. I saved it and then exited. Launching a spreadsheet performed fine.
So if you are upgrading a machine from Office 2003 to 2007 there are two options:
1) Open the PERSONAL.XLS file and go to View and unhide the worksheet. Then choose Save As and select Binary file. Then go back to View and hide the worksheet once again and save the file.
2) First export the macros from the personal macro workbook. Once the upgrade has been performed, then you can go import them into the 2007 XLSB file.
Location of personal macro workbook:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERID\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART |
