Excel 2007 Print Scaling causes page break each cell

When you go to print preview then try to scale the output to say 1 page wide 3 pages tall, it forces page break per cell and makes documents hundreds or thousands of pages long. Also comes up with Margins Do not fit page error.

I have not found a permanent solution to this problem but one thing that seems to help is to go into c:\program files\microsoft office\office12 and delete EXCEL.EXE

Once you launch Excel again from the start menu (the shortcut from quick launch will not work (if applicable) as it is pointing to the program you just deleted) - you will see Excel install and voila! no more issues with print preview.

However, I have one user who has seen this problem return and I have completely removed office and added it back previously. I am not sure what the final fix is for this, but the above serves as a temporary solution.

I did this and it worked like a charm. So thankful for the tip, this was driving me crazy in spreadsheets I had spent weeks perfecting and creating dependencies in, etc. Thought I was going to have to nuke 'em and start from scratch. Rolling Eyes

This afternoon, I encountered an issue that sounded very similar to the one in the original post: I opened a file that had previously been formatted to print on 1 page wide by X pages long. Upon doing so, I discovered that Excel had reformatted the page breaks for me so it wanted to print hundreds of pages (approx. 1 page per cell). Attempting to manually re-adjust the page breaks gave me an error about the scale being too small to be able to extend the page breaks.

This isn't a "final fix" either, but could help explain the problem....
Here's what worked for me:
I noticed that I had another file open which had been created using an older version of Excel and had been opened in "Compatibility Mode." When I closed out that file and reopened *only* the file that was showing the weird page breaks previously, I was able to correct the page breaks without any problem.
