Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>customization>menustoolbars (more info?)

I just switched from a Windows 98 machine to a new XP Pro
machine with Office 2003. I need to add Equation Editor.

I found Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 820916 about
how to change Equation Editor Options. I worked through
those steps, even setting up the shortcut folder on my
desktop. When I double-click it a new Word document
appears. Is this correct???

Adapting this article's info, I found Equation Editor in
Office Tools and sperately tried all 3 options to load
it. they all seemed to work, but none gave me the
expected icon to add to my tool bar in Word. ??

So I still can't use Equation Editor and now my Xerox
Work Center 470CX printer has a red light lit and a
display of "System Error" I can't get rid of. I have
removed and reinstalled the Xerox software and the new
Xerox printer driver, unconnected and reconnected the
printer cable, and powered the printer down and back up.
And I powered down the computer before each step and
powered it back up following each step.

Any suggestions, please.

If you are talking about installing, here's how, go to add and remove
programs, control panel, Office Setup, ad & remove, under the Word group,
expand, Office tools, Equation, click to install to hard disk.

OR

In Word, click "Insert", "Object", under the object type, scroll down and
select Equation Editor 3.0, you might need your Office CD, so have it
available.

It sounds as if you have succeeded in installing Equation Editor, but
installing it does not add a toolbar button; you still have to go to Insert
| Object | Equation 3.0. But you can add the toolbar button using Tools |
Customize. Just look for Equation Editor in the Insert category and drag it
to your toolbar.

FWIW, I don't believe the KB article you read was really relevant to your
situation. Here are the usual instructions for installing Equation Editor:
Go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, select Microsoft Office, and
click the Change button. In the first page, select "Add or Remove Features."
On the next page, expand "Office Tools." Select Equation Editor and set it
to "Run from My Computer." Click the Update button, and insert the Office CD
when prompted.

In any case, I don't believe that any of this is related to your printer
problems.
