I've created styles for appendices following Shauna Kelley's (and
others')instructions (to the letter!) So Word's heading styles 7, 8, 9 are
being used, with a numbering convention of A, A.1, A.1.1, B, etc.
This numbering is finally working properly. But, when I put a
cross-reference to the paragraph number of an appendix into the main body of
the document, it shows 6.5A or 6.5B, etc. for all appendix cross references.
However, when I insert a cross refrence into an appendix, the cross reference
shows A, B, etc.
Can anyone suggest a solution. I think something is going wrong with the
bookmarks. At one point, in another document, this was working properly, so I
know it can be done successfully.

When you cross-reference the appendix items, make sure *not* to choose
"Paragraph number (full context)" for "Insert reference to"; this is also
explained in Shauna Kelly's article at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/NumberingAppendixes.html.
