Countif certain values on specific date

My data =sheet1 where colom A=dates and colom B=amounts which consist of
negative as wel as positive values.
Query is on sheet2 where A1=the date that is query (for example 30/07/2009)
and B1=the criteria of the amount (for example <500). C1 must be the result
of the formula.
Can someone please help me& tell me if this be done?
