Is there any way to convert a pdf to a word document. I understand Adobe is
strict in order to protect for obvious reasons, but besides exporting as text
or a graphic file, is there any other way in order to get editable text?

Any insight here would be much appreciated.

Scansoft sells a utility that does this. I'm sure others are available as
well.

I've used theirs. Not bad, but not great. And some documents can't be done.
(Like the prescription form for our mail order drug company! Drat!)

If the PDF is not protected you can use Acrobat to convert it (depending on
what's in it) otherwise it requires the use of a conversion tool, of which
there are no end of flavours, or OCR. Finereader works quite well.
