Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>mail (more info?)

I must be dumber than dirt, but for about 7 years I have been trying to get
the "default" button to do anything to permanently change the font that comes
up when I am trying to use the "Envelopes and Labels" option in the "Tools"
menu.

I can change the fonts for the address and return address using the
"Options" menu and it will work only for the envelope or label I'm going to
print when I do it. If I press the "Default" button, I get a message that
says: "Do you want to change the default envelope address to (Default) (name
of font)? This change will affect all new documents based on the NORMAL
template."

Does this mean that I can't permanently change the fonts for the address on
the document I'm working on, but only on documents based on the Normal
template that are created after (i.e. "new") I click on the "Default" button?

If so, does anybody know how to permanently change the default font for the
addresses on existing documents?

If not, what am I doing wrong?

I have been fighting this for years and cannot find anything to help in the
3-inch thick book that I have on Office 2000, 8 in 1 (that I can't understand
anyway!).

I do not remember if this applies to Word 2000, but in later versions, there
is an Envelope Address Style and if you modify the font in that style, and
thereafter the modified font will be used whenever that style is used.

Labels on the other hand use the font that is defined in the Normal Style in
the Normal.Dot template.
