Hello guys,
I installed MS Office 2007 on two computers. One is using XP and the other
Media Center. On the media center Spell check doesn't work. When I close the
document I receive a messege Assertion failure, someproblem with debugging
and I had to enable JIT (no idea how to do it?).
I need my spell check..any help?

Mmm, I'm a bit confused. Media Center isn't an operating system, it's software
that runs on your operating system (Windows). So which version of Windows is on
that other machine Smile?

The error message you mention indicates some kind of .NET Framework code is
trying to execute (in debug mode, actually) and cannot. If this is happening
when you work in Word, then you apparently have some kind of managed code
(.NET) COM Add-in installed that isn't working correctly. If you hold down
CTRL, to start Word in Safe Mode, do things (spelling and closing) work as they
ought?

Hello Cindy,

and thank you for your help. If the Media centre is not operating system
that it should be XP. When I bought my computer they asked me wehether I
wanted XP or the Media Centre and I chose the Media Centre?
As concern my problem, I had another reply. It was suggested to add 'old' in
front of DLL and LEX files in the registry (HOT_KEY, CURRENT USER, SOFTWARE,
MS, SHAREDTOOLS, PROOFING TOOLS, 1,.0, OVERIDE, ). This fixed the problem but
I don't know why? If I remove old..the spelling problem persists again?
I asked MS but they have no idea. What about you?
Thanks for your help.

Perhaps you need to go and ask where you bought your computer, if this is
some kind of special configuration.

Cindy,

I understand the OP means Windows Media Center, which IS an OS,
basically XP with the addition of Media software and some changes
regarding networking (no domain access). JIT seems to mean "Just in
Time" which I believe is a technique of compilation.

I would first check what software gets loaded at startup on this machine
using for instance msconfig and I would disable everything which is
not absolutely necessary. If the error is still there after a reboot, I
would uninstall Word 2007, clean the registry, and reinstall Word 2007.

Regards

Cindy, and others:
I have Windows XP and MS Office 2003 (Word 2003). The only thing I've done
recently is to install a medical dictionary. Now I'm getting the same type
of error. It reads "Assertion Failed!" "Program: ...am Files/Microsoft
Office/OFFICE11/WINWORD.EXE" "File:.\scoring.cpp" "Line: 133"
Expression: ret
For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the
Visual C++ documentation on asserts. (What is this and where do I find it??
And, if I find it... will it be in English so I can understand it??)
"Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled." (I did hit
retry, but it did nothing for me. I haven't a clue what JIT is or how to
enable it. Any help?)

And if you uninstall that dictionary, what happens?

The error message is caused by Dorlands or Spellex medical spellcheckers
in combination with Service Pack 2 for Office 2003. Dorlands and
Spellex have released free updates to their spellcheckers to make them
work properly with Office 2003 SP2. To continue working in the meantime
until you install the updated spellcheckers, turn off the Dorlands or
Spellex spellchecker in Word by clicking on Tools | Options | Spelling &
Grammar | Speller type: Normal | OK.
