I have Office XP and when I open Word I get the following:
Runtime Error
Program C:\ Program Files\Microsoft Office/Office 10\Winword exe.
Abnormal program Termination
I have not been able to find a solution. I was told that renaming file
normal.Dot would help but I do not have such a file.
Please reply to group
Thanks

In Windows Explorer, select Tools\Folder Options then select the View tab.
Check the “Show hidden files and folder options, then click Apply then OK.
Refresh the Windows Explorer.
If you look in Documents and Settings\Your user name, you should see a
folder called Application Data. Open that folder then drill down to
Microsoft\templates. You will find the Normal.dot file there.
Hope this helps,

There *must* be a normal.dot file. Look for hidden/system files.

In Word 2007 and Word 2010, the file name (with file name extensions shown) is
normal.dotm.
But renaming Normal.dotm may not be the appropriate fix; there are other
possibilities. You had better take a look at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm.
