After installing office 2007 my spell checker quit working totally. After
googling I found one idea about the problem being in my profile. So I log in
as someone else on my machine and everything works fine. But logged in as me
it fails. Now I'm on a corporate network so I'm not sure if I can delete my
profile some way or what. Any ideas?

I had the same problem and solved it as follows:

Start Regedit and goto the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing
Tools\1.0\Override\en-US

I had 2 entries (DLL and LEX) pointing to non-existing files.

Rename these to oldDLL and oldLEX.

After this change all Spell Checking worked normal again.

Hopes this helps you as well.

May be I am missing something, but if you are on a corporate network,
how come you do not bring in first the IT guys? Seems to me, that would
be the safest way (for your work station and your position:-)) to solve
the problem. But my question does not diminish the interest of the
answer that has been provided.

Thanks that did the trick. Microsoft needs to get that pushed out more in
MSDN

Actually I am IT. I like using the news groups to keep from reinventing the
wheel.

Sorry, I was mislead by the "Now I'm on a corporate network". I did not
imagine you were "THE network" Smile. I of course agree, the very purpose
of NG is to share knowledge.

Unfortunately, a thorough search of the registry failed to uncover the key
you cited. Then again, I am using Windows Vista and perhaps the key you
refer to is for XP only?

Post subject: had to dreate the key [Login to view extended thread Info.]

I had this same problem with spell checker not working. I run office2007 enterprise on top of xp sp2.

I went to use this fix and didn't have the keys mentioned. I had HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing\Tools\1.0 but no override or en-US.

So, I create the keys, and left nothing but the blank default in them - and shazaam! - my spell checker works now.

Thanks for the great fix! Saved my lyfe. Laughing

I had the same problem. I had to make the override and en-us keys, but that did not work for me. Does anyone have any other ideas. Thanks

I have two computers running XP pro, with the same identical copy MS Office Enterprise. Both -spell check not working. One computer had the override file which I changed to oldDLL...oldLEX . Wow, IT WORKED !!! THANK YOU !

However, the other compter didn't have these keys as mentioned above. I thought this was weird. My question at this point is; "How do I create new keys?

Before I had read this reply I exported the override folder with the en-US and the oldDLL and oldLEX onto a usb stick and ran it on the other compter. It seemed to install just fine right where its supposed to go but spell check is still not working on that machine. Damn! Maybe I should delete them and try creating them myself? HELP!! Please !!!

I had a user with the same problem and none of the registry solutions or dictionary/language settings were the issue. I found the problem in the Add-Ins section of Word Options...

At the bottom of the screen select Manage: Disabled Addins > Go...

Another screen indicated: The items listed below were disabled because they prevented Word from functioning correctly....
Addin: speller en-us (nlsdata00009.dll)

I selected it, then clicked the Enable button and all was well again.

BTW, I also ran the Word Options > Resources > run Microsoft Office Diagnostics which found and fix one problem - may or may not have been related.

I restarted Word to make sure the enabled Addin remained active. So far, so good.
