I feel like Lynch lets his obsession with beautiful women spill over
into his work. For a guy whose films are so edgy, he casts some serious
babes. This is fine if it's a deliberate aesthetic choice, but it
doesn't feel like that, it feels like he's just indulging his interest.
What do you think?

So you agree with me that he is being indulgent? Shouldn't we hold him
to a higher standard?

I'm sorry to have to tell you this but a film makers films are defined
by his taste (as is all art).
I doubt Lynch can resist a beautiful woman any more than anybody else -
asthetically or otherwise.

I think you should also question the decor he uses in his movies since
he clearly enjoys that part too
..
Any artist is going to put the things they love or understand into their
work as that is what makes
them unique. Lynch's heriones are normally hot. Log ladies less so but I
personally don't find Laura
Dern in the least bit attractive. Art is pretty much defined by
indulgence so yes I do agree with you on
that.

I don't really understand what you mean by 'higher standard' though. If
you mean should he make
his films more realistic then a definite no.

Just for the record, I certainly don't think he's a predator. But your
balance notion is a good point. Attractive, compelling people
confronted with horrible things. If that's his case, I'll buy it. I
still sort of think he's indulging himself, though.

I basically agree with you, but I don't think raising this question
makes me a prude.

Sorry, I retract my suggestion that you might be a prude for questioning
indulgence. And I might even acknowledge that even within the scope of my
own taste there are limits to artisitic indulgence. But I'm thinking more
Andy Warhol there.
