Slim Pickens starred in the lead role in Pink Motel (1983).

L.Q. Jones starred in one of the two lead roles in The Brotherhood of Satan
(1971).

Strother Martin starred in the other lead role in The Brotherhood of Satan
(1971), as well as the lead roles in Ssssss (1973) and The Ransom of Red
Chief (1975).

There's a reason for that naming; Andy Devine owned a sizable ranch outside
Kingman and was considered a person of some importance in the area (insofar
as anyone who lives in the vicinity of Kingman can be considered to be of
importance). There's another movie connection here as well; supposedly Clark
Gable & Carole Lombard spent their honeymoon at the Devine ranch-- but if
you continue on old 66 west out of Kingman for about 10 miles or so you'll
hit the decaying former mining town (and would-be tourist attraction) of
Oatman, Arizona, whose sole remaining hotel proudly claims that Gable &
Lombard spent their wedding night there (and, last time I passed through,
even had a small memorial to them set up in the room in question). That
hotel contains one of the rougher bars I've ever been in, incidentally. If
you're a connoisseur of such establishments, drop by in the evening after
the tourists have left. Some drunk will probably try to start a fight with
you within 10 minutes of your arrival...

I was pleased to see that while driving out West, an exit off of I-40 in
Kingman, AZ was "Andy Devine Blvd."-- or was it "Ave."? Can't recall. It's
their piece of the old Route 66, I think.

Gotta take the next exit, I think, to catch the Whataburger, however--and
the one after that to traverse the dam and hit Vegas.

Those are two good choices. Jack Elam always brought a smile to one's face.
Bruce Dern really was good as the psychotic. I think Elam really was
interesting to watch as an actor but he also had that really unusual face.
But it was something inside of Bruce Dern that made him so scary. He looked
like a regular guy?
