Hi could anyone help with this question.
Just had a call from an editor about a job she is cutting using final
cut pro. When recording to a separate source in this case a SD 788t
and using Lockit boxes running TOD on both camera and recorder, does
Final Cut then have the ability to auto sync the picture timeline to
the audio or vise versa or does it have to be synced manually. Is it
then better to use Rec run or TOD as they are going to be using
multiple cameras in the future Rec run may not be an option.
If anyone has any ideas then please let me know

This has been addressed before. Search this group for more info. That
said,I believe www.videotoolshed.com makes utility to read audio trk.
LTC for FCP.
I use TOD mostly unless production wants Rec.run, but that's usually
with a tri-level sync source with iso'd cameras/recorders.

It's not Automatic, but the new version of FCP has the ability to
"Merge" clips. You select the Video clip and audio clip in the Browser
and select Merge clips by timecode
bam.. your in sync. If the timecode is on an audio track, then you
have to select use "Aux Track" in FCP for the video clip..

It will also do automatically but it doesn't merge them for you this
way. (real stupid.) Just highlight all video and audio files froma
specific day and make multi clip setting or real close to. FCP then
aligns the files according to type (video o r audio) and TC.

What you mean is my FCPauxTC reader (it's wrong name, as it works with
Premiere as well (as long as you use QT files)
But i don't believe the OP used LTC on an audio track.

Nevertheless, the app comes with another tool: BWF/QT merge
This thing looks at a folder containing QT's, and a folder containing
BWF files, checks for overlap and the paste the BWF into the QT.
(In batch)
It can use either Normal or AUX tc from the QT.
Should be a solution if there are more than a few clips.

A general word of warning:
BWF and FCP DO NOT play well together in NTSC.
You have to set FCP to use drop or non drop. (user preferences, second
tab 'editing'). If you don't set it right, the TC will not be
calculated right.
But besides the difference in TC calculation, FCP also changes the
duration / playback rate of the clip if you set it to NON DROP.
This is PLAIN WRONG.
So always make sure you import your files trough QT if you want to
work in NDF.
