I finally got to watch Star Trek.
Things I don't understand about the Star Trek story line
that don't seem to matter to it's new fans anyway.
1. Why Spock Prime stayed in hiding on Vega Whatever for 25 years,
when there was a Federation outpost 14km away according to Kirk's
on board computer?
Why didn't he go there 25 years ago and warn the Federation?
He could have saved Vulcan.
2. How Spock Prime and Spock Jr. can occupy the same time continuum,
while Spock Prime tells him "good luck"?
Well, since Spock has obviously lived to be an old man, it doesn't
really
matter what Spock Jr. will do in the future because it all leads to a
predetermined destiny that can't be altered.
Ok, nevermind, it doesn't matter that the story makes no sense, major
story
convulsions aside...
I thought the casting was very good...I especially liked the guys who
played
McCoy and Chekov.
The screen writing and script were very good.
I liked the rather fast paced dialog exchanges, off-camera voices, and
more
detailed technology glimpses. Essential stuff IMHO.
I thought the camera solar flares, rolling and shaking was a bit much.
And the Romulan ship was way too discombobulated...
wtf are all those spike things for?...apparently nothing other than
menacing
looks. Give me a break with over-kill evil porcupine art work, it's
confusing and serves
no purpose.
All said, it was ok, but my idea of the story could have been just as
good
to bring in new fans if not better. |

| And that outpost was an easy walk... when moments before there were
creatures outside (which is he went to the cave to hide).
I thought the script was a mess, but the movie was fun anyway.

I liked the second movie where Spock picked McCoy's nose, because you
can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your
friend's nose. It made his sacrifice much more poignant. |

Yet another thing I had trouble with understanding.
First he's dead, then he's alive, repeat, rinse, repeat.
Is he dead or isn't he?...we may never know. |

"Finally"? It only opened a little over two months ago.

I never watch new releases right away.
I first listen to peoples reviews to determine whether I want to watch
it.
If you think a couple months is bad, you should listen to me talk
about
movies made way before I was even born that I watched for the first
time.
As a matter of fact, I watch and discover many more older movies than
I do newer ones. |

Good for you. I'm the same way.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Now it makes perfect sense. |

This is getting to be an ongoing tradition for me... waiting to see a big
summer movie until the last second of its theatrical run.

I agree. Also, given that time travel is something no human being has
ever done, we can't really say what's against the rules and what's not
for something that truly strange. I keep thinking of what Edison said:
"We don't know one half of one percent about anything."
Besides, it was swell to see Leonard Nimoy take one last bow as Spock and
even chat with his replacement. Sort of like a changing of the guard.

The bad guys were swallowed up by another artificial black hole.
By the by... I really liked this movie, too. Since movies don't necessarily
handle ideas well, but are great with action, a more action-oriented new
series of Star Trek films is... ah... the logical choice.
Furthermore, if the next one is as clever and as funny as this one is, I'll
stand in line for it without qualm. In fact, it's probably already possible
to start standing in line for Trek 2... or Trek 12... or whatever.
