Hello,

I was wondering if National Geographic has specific expectations in
regards to the sound recorded for their projects. Whether they prefer
just the standard Boom (Ch.1)/Wires (Ch. 2), or if they would rather
have mid-side, surround, etc. I was called for a possible project
(still up in the air) and I wanted to make sure to meet their
standard. The project is set for one day, one talker, one camera, etc.

Thank you,

E. Santiago

It changes with each show! I would check with the producer of the
piece, or get a contact name for the editor.

Sounds simple enough. One of the producers is a friend whom I've
worked with on a few projects. I'm sure he has the correct answer.
Thanks for the message Cleve. I hope you guys are doing well in
Dallas.

Take care, and have fun making movies.

They give the production a very specific document of what the
technical expectations are. Most of the specs are for post, but
there are some comments on acquisition requirements.

Nat Geo is a big company with many different divisions. It depends on
what you are doing. I've done jobs for them where most of the day is
locked off talking head interviews, and those had a request for
something like "2 mics on the subject. boom on CH 1, lav on CH 2,
don't worry about the producer". I've also done more docu-reality
style jobs where it's up to you to do what makes sense.
