Hello All,
I recently had the opportunity to link another 744T to mine during a shoot,
wich allowed me to record some more iso tracks on a complicated scene. (8
tracks set up: mixer SQN4 direct out to inputs 3&4 of machines A&B in
addition to their own mic inputs 1&2.)
It was done quite on the spot in the hurry so i didn't have time to think
about the monitoring issue and ended up struggling with 2 hearphones on my
head... very laughable I know.
However, how would you monitor properly such a set up ?
My only guess so far is to build a little hearphone "distributor/summing"
box, merging the 2 hp outputs of the 744T into 1.
Any ideas or tricks to share ?

Hi Fred,
i suppose the cheapest way to do this is make a combiner cable for
your headphones.
headphone out of machine A goes to your left ear, machine B to right.
if you select ABCD monitoring in both machines, you hear it all!
if you solo something on any machine, you hear it in one ear.
all you need is two male and one female HP jack and some cable.
best regards,

Not sure if you can do this with SQN but with my SD 442 I can monitor
2 return signals, A & B.
Recorder A into return A with appropriate cable (I use my beta snake
with my breakaway that has a mini jack for return only, no XLR's) and
recorder B into return B (this cable is a stereo mini jack to mini
jack)
This way I can monitor both recorders individually with return A or B
and also together with the return A/B position on the 442.
I can also use the headphone monitor select on the 744T's to listen to
iso tracks or whatever I want, all through the mixer. It works really
well.
Does your SQN have 2 returns?
If it does, you dont need to make any special boxes etc unless you
really want to ofcourse!

You don't have to build. This is what I use:
