I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor.

Five :Good Ideas" in Dr. Strangelove:

1. Condition red, sir. Yes. Jolly ***good idea,*** keeps the men on
their toes.

2. Look, I don't know what sort of stupid game this is you're playing,
but I've got a very ****good idea**** what the recall code is and I
have to get in touch with SAC headquarters immediately.

3.... Ripper enters the washroom. oh, you're going have a little wash
and brush up, are you? What a ****good idea.**** Always did wonders
for a man, that, Jack. A little wash and brush up. Water on the back
of the neck, and... makes you feel marvelous. That's what we need,
Jack! Water on the back of the neck and the code

4. Now look, Colonel... Bat Guano, if that really is your name, may I
tell you that I have a very, very ****good idea,**** I think, I hope,
I pray, what the recall code is. It's some sort of recurrent theme he
kept repeating. It's a variation on Peace on Earth or Purity of
Essence. E O P. O P E. It's one of those!

5. I must confess, you have an astonishingly ****good idea**** there,
Doctor.

Have any of your Global brain friends trid to deal with Terrance
Mckenna's math in his time wave zero premise?

Mckenna's premise started the entire 2012 thing.

Point one, I have almost no friends to begin with, and none of the
ones I do have believe in the global brain, and respond with "Just
bunch of fancy words thrown together by some people" if I try to
discuss it with them.

Point two, looking at the website you quote, McKenna's stuff is
fuzzier-headed than the global brain itself.

Oh well. Ask Hofstader what he thinks of it.

We hope----or we hope that the outcome is not a bad thing--mckenna
never pretended to know what this all meant. He had just found what
he believed to be a pattern. He is not someone to dismiss offhand.

I had studied the I-Ching since 1964 and I read "Invisible Landscape"
back in 1976 and have looked at Time Wave Zero many times, but
usually conclude it was too fuzzy and it gave me doubts about
Mckennas who was usually very reliable.

T. Mckenna died of a Brain tumor..

I did one time. He said that he has nothing against it. His writings
come close to talking about it; I've always thought that his created
memes contribute a lot to it. But I don't know if he specifically
wrote on the subject of the GB anywhere. I've never researched it.

I haven't heard from him since I sent him the silly thing about what
if you took thousands of perfectly useful garden tools and arranged
them into a sentence which could be read from the air which read,
"This sentence is useless to do actual gardening with".

I meant ask hofstader what he thinks of Time Wave Zero. i think he
has mentioned global brain from time to time.

Its sort of like his books....fun but useless except for head
tripping.

I would love to see his analysis of Mckenna's Time Wave Zero.

I would also like to see what Wolfram has to say on it.

I wouldn't say that, actually the topic he deals with are fundamental
to understanding what forms mind.

Hofstadter's email addres is dughof *at* cs.indiana.edu

I've found that he answers people rather more readily than most famous
people, unless you disagree too vehemently with what he has espoused.

Wolfram I have no idea about, have never even use any of his software.

There is another odd pointer to the 2012 date, American psychedelic
shaman Terrance McKenna's Time Wave theory. In that theory, the year
2012 is called "Time Wave Zero." McKenna took the I Ching, did some
kind of mathematical fractal operation with it, and produced a
computer program which supposedly produces a "time wave" which maps
out something called "novelty" across the scale of time, from the Big
Bang to the Eschaton, the ending of time. And guess what? The mapping
of time mysteriously ends at 2012. The Omega point.

I'm betting that if you do get through to Hofstadter (or Wolfram, for
that matter) that they, as me, dismiss it as .... well, compost
material.
