O'HORTEN watches amiably as its protagonist, a 67-year-old Norwegian
train engineer, collides with his mandatory retirement. As you might
expect from a Scandinavian comedy/drama, the script and performances
are laid-back, wry, and amusing ...and the ambience is, well,
convincingly Scandinavian. Still, this story's seemingly aimless
meandering was a little more capricious than I could make complete
sense of. Likeable, but (apart from a piercingly atmospheric opening
sequence) only somewhat recommended.
