Just watched this for the first time on Blue Ray. Loved the movie. It is
based upon a true story from WWI, where our young men were going to
France through Canada to learn to fly and fight in the war before we
entered the war. But like in several movies I have seen, there was a
deleted scene that really needed to be in the movie. It was the funeral
scene when one young pilot was shot down. His mother showed up - spoiler
here - turns out the lad was only 16 years old. Says a great deal about
how we have changed. Not too many 16 year old boys would do such a thing
today, they are too immature do to societal coddling.

Oh, I don't know - in WWII, Korea, Viet Nam -kids from 14 (but looking
mature) have joined the armed forces.
I think the requirements are more stringent now (for Iraq and
Afghanistan) so fewer underage kids can slip by.
The all wanted some excitement in their lives - and many of them did
not make it back. Sort of a right of passage.

Being a pilot, this is one of the movies I added to my DVR collection. I
haven't watched it for some months now. Will give it a re-run.

Cheers! -- Rik

Rik,

Did you listen to the director's audio on it? Most of the planes are
only digital planes. The film was shot with digital photography, and so
they were able to do motion control on planes and in some shots all but
one of the planes are digital.
