I saw Scoop yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting some
more of Woody's distracting whining that ruined Manhattan Murder Mystery for
me, but found him genuinely funny and reminiscent of Broadway Danny Rose,
with Scarlette Johansson acting the perfect dim-bulb foil for his barbs.

I was predisposed to be bored and upset by the yet again use of a magician
as a plot vehicle, but that was also funny, well done, and entertaining.

All in all it was well written, well acted, and well directed.

By the way, did anyone else think Scarlett Johansson looked pregnant? I
know she tends to be a little chunky, but she looked more so than usual in
some of the scenes.

Lewis-

Still a loyal fan, but longing for another masterpiece like Crimes and
Misdemeanors.

Can I just add one big "ditto" to this?

There was also a dose of "Oedipus Wrecks" thrown in, and maybe a hint
of Love & Death, too. Of course, many reviewers have commented that
it's almost like the comic version of Match Point, too. So if he's
filmed a similar story as a comedy & a drama, does that mean we can
compare it to Melinda, too? Cool

And, yeah, Scarlett looked a little "bulky" in the movie, but I think
they were just trying (unsuccessfully) to make her a little less
attractive and nerdish.

It seemed like Woody stammered much more than usual in the movie. I
don't think it was part of his BDRose "shtick", either. Perhaps old
age is starting to catch up to him. A few of the lines would've been
much funnier if he could've delivered them just a bit more rapidly.
However, it's miles above his other recent comedies...

I saw "Scoop" last night and I think the subject title pretty accurately
describes the film. I did enjoy it as a straight comedy quaisi mystery
thriller. However, I have enjoyed past movies that have characters that
examine ethics, morality, love, lust, infidelity. I didn't feel like this
movie did that at least seriously. That was okay as the movie still worked
for me in an "Allen-lite" fashion. I know there are plenty of other
"Allen-lite" movies, but I just enjoy seeing his films in more thoughtful
and contemplative setting.
