Bad guy/girl really good

Films are full of seemingly good characters who turn out to be the
villan. Far less often seen is the nasty bird who is really a sweetie.
In All Roads Lead Home the stolid black ranch hand assigned to put down
useless animals is really their savior. Other examples ?

The most ridiculous use of this device is "Tomorrow Is Another Day"
where the murderer, the cheap dance hall dame and the "corrupt" cop
are really misunderstood as they are presented. In this case, the
movie is totally dishonest rather than clever.

There's a bit of a problem with your question: any answers could ruin
things for people, depending on whether they've already seen the films
that will be discussed. See, the first example that came to my mind is
a movie so good I wouldn't want to spoil it by just naming it -- the
revelation that the bad guy has been a good guy all along is key to
enjoying the film. Want to take a chance on spoiling a really superior
film you may not have seen yet? Here's some spoiler space:
