Think of it as THE ABYSS meets DANCES WITH WOLVES.

It reminds me to much of that Final Fantasy movie from a few years
back, "revolutionary" effects work attached to a story that looks
deadly dull. Sure, A Christmas Carol has been done to death over the
centuries so maybe there's no point doing it again, but at least it's
a good story.

Possibly by coincidence, you're referencing both of the eminent and
imminent IMAX-3D productions. Even if their stories are yesterday's
cold cocoa, I don't see how they can be missed...

Well, I can say from my personal preference that I would sooner see
Cameron make a movie about the phone book than see Zemeckis make a movie
about anything. That guy should never have gotten a job beyond script
editor or best boy or something like that.

And has what looks like FAR superior visual quality. Avatar is
cartoonish beyond belief.

But we already know that you are allergic to cartoons. Thats OK, but
it skews otherwise reasonable comments.

As I type this I have just seen the televised trailer; it _is_
cartoonish. I don't think that can be helped based on what the Aliens
need to look like.

My reason for adding to the thread isn't the cartoon like quality but
that this is the 1st time it came to my attention that they are
blatantly says: "We are on this planet, that already has a native
peoples, and they are 'inconvenient' to our plans...".

This sets up the whole 'us' vs 'them' and the going behind Enemy lines
plot threads. makes for drama, but damn.

Actually, the trailer (or the version they showed on TV) reminds me of
an episode of the original "Outer Limits" series called "The
Chameleon," guest-starring Robert Duvall.

Ummm, Cameron has a history of ripping off "Outer Limits." Just ask
Harlan Ellison.

One can't but help to think that your distaste of it stems primarily
from its "liberal" plot of big bad evil military-industrial
corporation vs. innocent indigenous people. It's been done so many
times that it bores to tears.

That being said, I'll still be in line...
