I was wondering, has anyone out there managed to get prelink up and
working correctly? Without causing your programs to 'segfault' or to
simply quit running? I've tried several different version along with a
boat load of patching but nothing seems to work *ouch* The old version
seems to work better than the newer releases. The only hitch is its poor
handling of static binaries such as 'bash' and some issues with several
core GLIBC files as well. Will L G

Dynamic linking on Alpha is quite different in some ways from x86.
It's hardly surprising that it breaks many programs on Alpha.

FWIW, I once tried prelink on an x86 machine, and I couldn't measure
any difference for the things I mostly do.

prelink kicked in automagically (some sort of cron job I imagine)
in a new Scientific Linux CERN 4.x install on my Dell Inspiron 5150 -- and
burnt out the processor! I have no idea how, but that model is seriously
under-engineered. I'm now on my _fifth_ motherboard and there's still six
months warranty to run... Its CPU temperature hits the "rev limiter" of
70 C at about 24 C ambient, where it starts throttling the duty-cycle.
At about 22 C the CPU is around 65 C and at 19-20 C the CPU runs at 60 C.

Mined ewe, I run seti@home 24/7 (when it's booted into Windows).
