Are you really that boonkers?
Attempting to discuss anything with "Dan C"
is the same as wrestling with a pig.

Whatever. I'm not trying to "win potential converts" to any cause.

Bad logic. You can't post to a newsgroup using a quill pen or an
outboard motor. Silly feeb.

Sigh. I know. But I pity the poor guy. He must have been horribly abused

others are complaining about this too): Unable to determine available
memory size.

the laptop was made in 1999:) so far I managed installing Ubuntu 9.04
Desktop, Puppy, Kubuntu. But I like to try other things and will keep the
Ubuntu but dual boot other distros to see if there are better options for
my laptop:)

No, I didn't, sorry.
I had another look and found one incredibly slow working link:
http://ftp.leg.uct.ac.za/pub/linux/pclinuxos/live-cd/english/preview/
or
ftp://ftp.leg.uct.ac.za/pub/linux/pclinuxos/live-cd/english/preview/
Good Luck,

There's no pollution. 2007 and 2009 are one and the same. The ISO images
are just snapshots of the same system taken at different times, as
the repositories are continuously updated. Each time any new package is
installed, the whole system gets upgraded, if the user is using Synaptic
properly, which keeps the users system in sync with the software currently
in the repo.
There's no reason to have a 2007 ISO when 90+% of the packages will have
to be upgraded to be current. Even the newest 2009.2 ISO needs to be
upgraded as soon as the installation is finished, before additional
packages can be safely installed. You won't find a 2009, or 2009.1 ISO in
the repositories, for the same reason.

I think there is one good reason to have the old one, as you would know
having read the thread:) The new one won't install on that laptop, where
the old one will!
That it will be upgraded later through updates is just fine, but not the
current issue.

Except that it won't be upgraded smoothly, and most likely, not
at all, as the number of upgrades has reached the point that without the
transitional, in between stages of the upgrade path, the system can't make
the translations between the software on the 2007 installation ISO image
to what is currently in the repositories.
Picture, if you will, trying to upgrade a Red Hat 9 installation to the
latest Fedora release, rather than just a clean install of Fedora. Odds of
success are slim to none. Most distros try to discourage upgrades in favor
of clean installations when the have a new point release. The upgrade is
usually trivial, but there is always the small risk of something
conflicting. The greater the gap between the version installed and the
newest release the greater the possibility of failure, until failure
becomes a certainty.
The 2007 release has reached the stage that the upgrade path between it
and the 2009.2 release has gaps and truncations to the extent that failure
to upgrade is an almost certainty.
All distros support their releases for a certain time, then cease to
support them once that time has expired. When no longer supportable, they
remove the repos entirely. As the PCLinuxOS repositories are in a
continuous state of change, they are in affect, both self deleting and
self regenerating, so only the installation ISO images are subject to
retirement. The 2007 installation ISO image has been retired, as it's no
longer viable as an upgradeable installation source.
