Archived from groups: aus>computers>linux (more info?)

I have a satellite a100 from toshiba which blue screens when i play 3D
games, but toshiba claims there's nothing wrong with it, so i thought
i'd try a different operating system to see if i'm chasing a software or
hardware issue.

However, i can't seem to find anything for linux that stresses the card
of this laptop enough (nvidia geforce go 7300).

Can anyone suggest a program i can use? I have run memtest and found no
errors, and otherwise the system seems fine. I have gotten a lot of
suggestions from assorted sources as to what is wrong, ranging from the
antique graphics drivers toshiba uses to the narrow bus (?) used to
transport data from CPU to GPU. I had a theory that the partially shared
memory used by the graphics card might be at fault.

As a typical example, I might play oblivion, and turn right too fast,
and pow, BSOD. If i reboot and do the same thing, it might work for five
minutes or three hours.

My computer is under warranty but toshiba has said they may charge me
even to test it for faults, so i am weighing up whether or not to just
buy a new desktop, even though i can't really afford to. I have gaming
cravings. Razz
