I gave up on samba for linux to linux as the client was poor. Now use NFS.
however it's been rock solid with Windows and OSX as clients, so Id
suggest trying to isolate the problem first by putting a standard CLIENT
on the net that you know works, to see if the server is behaving.
your post is a bit information light too - do the samba logs show
anything? is the daemon even running?
etc.
