Archived from groups: alt>os>linux>smoothwall (more info?)

An appliance that comes loaded with Smoothwall, eliminating the need for a
bulky old computer.

Very nice idea, but I'm looking at the IP block config page and I can't see
how I can block an entire IP range, or block certain ports or port ranges
for that IP or IP range.

So, if I'm trying to protect my mail server by blocking spammers at the
firewall and I want to block the entire continent of Asia, as I get nothing
but spam from there, I would have to manually enter a few hundred million
IP's.
Instead, this appliance comes with speaker and microphone ports. Nice work!
Is this a firewall or karaoke machine?
For $700 (or $800 for the rackmount version), plus $150 for replacing the
hard drive with a flash drive, I can get more than 20 D-Link routers, which
give me what I need, minus the karaoke feature.
What a joke!
