So that one is similar to the one I pointed out?
An installable image that can grow to a full installation that "lives"
on that stick?

Or is it just a live one, like a live CD?

BTW is my normal Novell account cool for the Studio usage?
I know I have one, let me think...

Live one with ability to install and it also has MPlayer.
I have not aptimalized it. You must have a 2GB drive as the image is
1.5GB when expanded. I am sure I could get it to 1GB when trying.

No. You need to ask for an account. Once they give it, you can use your
Novell login, but they first must activate it. At this moment it is
still Beta.

I think I must have accidentally deselected graphics when choosing
software to install. Debian is now running again on my fw drive (with
the help of openSUSE's xorg.conf file Wink

I can't remember whether I had to intervene in order to get the
bootstrap installed on the external hd the first time around. Maybe the
fact the debian installer had a clean disk to start with and I allowed
it to make its own partitions, i.e., its having lucky first shot, gave
it an unfair advantage over the others.

In the end I used hformat from suse to clean out the external disk's
bootstrap partition which mkofboot refused to touch. ybin worked after
that. By then I had put quite a few extra lines into yaboot.conf to help
it along. I'll probably never know how necessary they were for the final
success.

Cheers

It's seeding here now Smile

Is it to be exacted on a stick or is it to be extracted and then dd:ed
to the stick or how does one put it on the stick?

Nothing uploaded till now, so I asume what I wrote in the mail worked?
Can you confirm?

Extracted and then dd-ed. It is compressed because otherwise it would be
1.5GB instead of 0.5GB and that is a serious difference

Yesterday evening I first put your torrent going.
There was no traffic though.
This morning I downloaded the file from the link and gave it to ktorrent for seeding.

It checked OK and now it's seeding, but no traffic:
Seeders 0(1)
Leechers 0(2)

I can see that Smile

The unofficial USB thingy created by Carlos Goncalves was a bit
different, that's why I asked. His instructions were:

gzip -cd <download>.raw.gz | dd of=/dev/<device_name> bs=4096

How is that different, except for the fact that it gives the commands
and puts them in a pipe.

Good to know that the URL worked. Did the image work?

I just don't know what difference "raw" makes there.

Haven't tried yet.

It is just part of the name and the actual extention of the unpacked
package.

houghis_KDE_3_desktop.i686-0.0.2.oem.tar.gz unpacks to
houghis_KDE_3_desktop.i686-0.0.2.raw

whatever.raw.gz will most likely unpack to whatever.raw

As there is only one file, it is only gzipped and not tarred with your
example. With me it is first tarred and then gzipped. Not absolutely
needed, but also not a big issue.
