(This is all on debian lenny)

I've just started playing with ipv6. Currently I'm using the deprecated
site local addresses fec0::

I've setup radvd (on heisenberg) with a prefix of fec0::100/64

One of my machines, (einstein) is configuring its ipv6 address on its
own:
einstein.home.woodall.me.uk has IPv6 address fec0::100:240:63ff:fee7:ee39

However, the other two machines, feynman and heisenberg are only
configuring link local addresses. I've had to explicitly configure the
site local addresses in /etc/network/interfaces. e.g. for feynman:
iface eth0 inet6 static
address fec0::100:240:63ff:fef2:bab
netmask 64

ipv6 seems to be working. But I'd like to remove this manual
configuration. What am I missing on the two machines that are giving
problems?

Both ssh and slrn are using ipv6 (infact I had to get reverse dns
working before slrn could connect to my newsserver)

And while posting that something has broken Sad

Feynman and einstein can no longer talk to each other via ipv6. Both can
talk to heisenberg ok.

Any ideas?

Rename the heisenberg box? ipv6 addressing is only about 12 orders of
magnitude away from being able to assign each and every atom of planet
earth its own unique address. To me that sounds awfully close to quantum
level addressing with all the uncertainty that introduces.

I managed to get feynman and heisenberg talking to one another again by
taking down the interface on feynman, waiting a few minutes and then
bringing it back up.

Probably during my experimenting I'd done something wrong and there was
some bad configuratin somewhere.

Still doesn't explain why einstein can pick up its configuration from (I
assume) radvd but feynman and heisenberg can't.

Tim.

And the problem is back again. It seems to be related to having an ipv6
connection open for a while with no traffic.

Tim.

I've made some progress:

ip link set eth0 allmulticast on

and feynman picks up the radvd advertisement from heisenberg.
