I'm thinking about moving over to Linux & would like some advice on
which flavour?

3Ghz Intel, 2Gb RAM, 40Gb HDD

Like Ray mentioned..it kind of depends on what you want to do. Given
that, you might want to start here:

and here:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/

I would suggest trying a few live distros before actually installing
Linux. Ubuntu is a good start for a complete desktop operating system.

If you want to turn your PC into a multimedia juke box, try
the live GeexBoX dsitro just for fun.

I'm partial to Burgundy Cherry, myself.

If you desire advice on which Linux distribution to install, please give
information on what you plan to use it for.
