Finally done configuring and what a good feeling it is.
All the X and console programs I love installed and config'd,, desktop
all tweaked out to taste, multimedia all working, console all tweaked out
to taste, wireless, samba config'd and locked down, CUPS/printer config'd
for wireless, email setup for both X and console, a shiny new streamlined
kernel stripped down to just actual hardware, all hardware a
workin' (except for firewire), 64/32 multilib, compiz-fusion (good for
'wowing' others), and even two "Bobs" giving their greetings during
bootup. Can actually start using my laptop as a user instead of
constantly root.
Very happy to have gone (come back) to Slackware. Had I stayed with
SUSE, I'd still be fighting everything "helpful" that it puts in your way.
Yes, Virginia, Slackware /is/ easier to get going than Suse/Ubuntu/etc.
(I also have Ubuntu "Satanic Edition" installed for S's and G's.)
Got that Windows "Now what?" feeling now though. You know, the no-
thought-process mindset where you just kind of gaze into your screen
while you just aimlessly browse the web.
