Hi Roberto,

I run Debian testing release on a Latitude C600. Earlier model than your D600.

Hi,
I have etch on a latitude D610 (upgraded from Sarge).
Most is ok.

I had difficulties with the WiFi because the firmware were not at the
right place on the disk (probably because of a major change around
hotplug/udev). I obtained the last firmware from Intel (ipw2200), which
had to be in /lib/firmware. Works well now.

Also difficulties with the configuration of the xorg.conf file, still
unable to manage clicks on the touchpad.

And one problem with cpu_frequency. A device is not found (I still do
not know what should be found!):
FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq
(/lib/modules/2.6.18-4-686/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko):
No such device

Good luck.
JM

The message is trying to say (admittedly not very clearly) that that
particular cpufreq driver doesn't work with your cpu. The loadcpufreq
script (from cpufrequtils) is incorrect for (at least) Celerons; see
bug #428248. You can try p4_clockmod, but it doesn't seem to
accomplish very much in the sense of power saving (it does drastically
reduce system responsiveness Sad ); see the above bug, and also the 3
bugs mentioned in the loadcpufreq script (#396117, #342014, #367307).

two more questions:
- does etch let you use stand-by or suspend/resume or whatever you
call it ? i think most ubuntu versions do

- and do you use precompiled debian kernel or you cooked one by yourself ?

Yes, this works, I can suspend or hibernate, and closing the lid
suspends the computer when on battery, and hibernates when on mains.

I use the precompiled kernel. I am a poor cook (despite French).

Thanks.
I tried p4_clockmod (in /etc/modules) which worked well, the system is
still responsive (on my dell D610 laptop).
But p4_clockmod suggests (when loading) to use speedstep_centrino for a
Pentium M cpu.
It also works well (I mean : battery is much saved and the cpu is very
much cooler !).
