digiKam 0.9.2-final (Using KDE 3.4.2 Level "b" SUSE 10.0)
Using Kipi library version 0.1.5
Using KExiv2 library version 0.1.5
Using Exiv2 library version 0.12.0
Using KDraw library version 0.1.1
Using Dcraw program version 8.60
Using PNG library version 1.2.8
Using Gphoto2 library version 2.1.99.head.0

Hallo allerseits,

ich nutze digiKam gerne und zu großer Zufriedenheit- je länger, desto mehr
und intensiver.

Mit meiner kleinen Digitalkamera (Canon Powershot A710 IS(?), 210 g) mache

Once again: all in ENGLISH (sorry)

Hi Everybody:

I like using digiKam and I'm quite satisfied with it- the more I use it, the
more I like it!

With my digital camera /Canon Powershot A710 IS(=), 210 g), I like to walk
around, even joggin with. For this reason, I'd like to add geo-dat to each
picture.

Choosing in the program digiKam a picture, I get a menu, and submenus
"EXIF", "PRODUCER INFO" (Heerstellerinfo), "IPTC", and "GEO".

The first three submenu carry information, the last "GEO" doesn't. I assume
that this menu could read a map, where one can select manually the pot, the
picture was taken, interacitively!?

? Does anyone know, if this assumptiion holds true?
? And, furthermore, why I can't see anything here?
? Is something missing with installation? (wrong libraries, e.g.?)
? Did I make a mistake?

Thank you for every hint and help-

Try reading the documentation. I haven't used this function but the docs
seem to explain it well. ->Help ->Kipi Plugins Handbook -> 12
Geolocalization editor

Of course you have the Kipi plugins installed ? Otherwise...no
documentation.

Of course, I did!

Besides "help", digiKam-Homepage KDE.org... a number of handbook-chapters
are empty (not only untranslated), unfortunately! Documentation looks a
little bit week in this nice projekt.

(besides: I had a little conversation concerning the use of raw-pictures,
recently: similar situation)

I "googled" for "digikam + geo" (and may permutations of several keywords,
of course: no success.

I'll stick with this software.

Thank you for your consideration.

Maybe I miscommunicated or I'm not understanding. Do you have the kipi
plugins installed ? Did you do -> digiKam ->Help -> Kipi Plugins
Handbook ?? (correct) See chapter #12.

Or did you do ->digiKam -> Help -> digiKam Handbook ???? (NOT correct !)

Also, I just opened an image and added the location data to an image using
the example data coordinates from the kipi-plugins handbook. I saved the
image with the data and reopened it with ->Image -Geolocation ->
Correlator. In the dialog that pops up I chose 'Edit'. In the window that
pops up a google map with the coordinates and a marker shows up. So it
seems to work. Though right clicking to get the coordinates doesn't seem
to work... I'll read some more.

is there an english, and different handbook-version?

I found a hint in the digiKam-handbook for additional information under
http://extragear.kde.org/apps/kipi

No real help, either!

BUT: when checking this homepage, there is a link for:

SuSE 10.0 - Links2Linux.de has KIPI packages for SuSE:
- kipi-plugins
- libkipi
- libkexif

-- "http://packman.links2linux.de/package/751"

The version mentioned for "libkexif" here is 0.25.

I do not even see this menu...

I just re-read your first post a I realized that you are using opensuse-10.0
NOT 10.2 as I am. Research indicates that the plugins for 10.0 from the
repo's don't include the function you asked about... Maybe I'm wrong but I
don't think so.

So the best thing to do is download and compile what you need from here:
(shift + left click to download !!!)
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/kipi/kipi-plugins-0.1.2.tar.bz2
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/kipi/libkexif-0.2.5.tar.bz2
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/kipi/libkipi-0.1.4.tar.bz2

The rpm's for 10.0 are from 08/08/2006, one year old !!

So go ahead and do the usual './configure && make && make install (ldconfig)
for these three packages starting with libkexif, then libkipi and then
kipi-plugins.

If you do this and all goes well you should see the 'missing' dialog.
Probably would be a smart thing to do to run './configure --help' when
configuring kipi-plugins to see what , if any, command line parameters to
pass to ./configure to make sure the documentation gets installed too.

Sorry I didn't see you are running 10.0 earlier and I hope you get this
working. Thanks to you I now know how to use this functionality. Wink

P.S. If you need any help compiling the packages let us know.

Perhaps a better way is to investigate kipi and its plugins provided by
packman. This seems to have the later versions for 10.0.
packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/10.0/i586/ or x86_64/
