smoothwall configuration

I've been trying to get smoothwall configured for my home network for a
little while now. I have install smoothwall using the default settings and
ip addresses for the green and red nic cards.My setup is from the
internet,phone line to a router configured for DHCP, (which I've been told
won't mess with smoothwalls own DHCP config)ip address is 192.168.1.1,
subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Ethernet cable connected to the smoothwall red
nic eth0, Configured for DHCP.DHCP host name smoothwall. Again another
ethernet cable from the green nic, ip 192.168.0.1, network mask
255.255.255.0 to a switch and from there to four machines, three running
linux and a laptop running win me. I can't log into the smoothwall box
from my machine ip address is 192.168.1.200. I can ping sw on 192.168.1.2
and from the tcp dump i know that I've ping eth1, smoothwall.lan.1025.
What do you think I've got wrong.

You didn't read the documentation. Hint: look at your IP addresses and
connections.

Just to confirm that address of the PC is 192.168.1.200?

If your client PC is at the above address, you have problems with your IP
address assignment and routing. The PC should be in the valid range for
that network, 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254.
Do you have the DHCP server on the smoothwall box set up for the green
interface and the clients set up for DHCP?
What are your DHCP server settings on the smoothwall box? Hopefully you have
some record of these.

Yes the client pc has and ip address of 192.168.1.200. This machine is
connected to the switch.
Sorry I just saaw something that I've wrong. I've connected the router to
the switch, as well as to the smoothwall box. I was wondering why I could
connect to the net but not access the config page. Long weekend too many
beers and tequila.
I've set the DHCP server config start address 192.168.1.100 end
192.168.1.200
Primary DNS 192.168.1.1

Dns and gateway settings
Primary DNS 192.168.1.1
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1

Green Interface
IP address 192.168.1.100
NetMask 255.255.255.0

Red Interface DHCP ip 0.0.0.0
netmask 0.0.0.0

I think thats all my setting that I need to configure but I think that
that is my problem.
Thanks for helping me out. My eyes are starting to turn into mush. I think
I should grab a coffee and some fresh air.

Right, thanks for the info. There does seem to be a bit of a confusion
between your original info and the new ones, probably due to the connection
problem. It would be best to make sure that the client PCs are picking up
the DHCP info from the Smoothwall box rather than your Router so we can see
what is going on, as with both the router and smoothwall box, connected to
the switch, you may have had problems with competing DHCP servers.

To confirm your existing network layout (you should use a monospaced font to
view):
(I assume you are using ADSL, as you mentioned a phone line)

Router Smoothwall Network Switch
ADSL>*<----------------->*<------------------------*-------Client PC .1.200
192.168.1.1 DHCP 192.168.1.100 |-------Client PC .1.199
Red Green |_______Client PC .1.198

Can you confirm the above after you have reconfigured your network and
restarted the client PCs.
Sorry about asking these questions, but I need to get a handle on what your
existing set up is, before solving your problem,
One thing to make sure, for Smoothwall, eth0 is usually the Green interface,
i.e. your local client side interface.

Read the manual and a good TCP/IP tutorial.

Hint:The Green interface needs to be on a different subnet.

The diagram pretty much is it. I' ll add this that I got from my
smoothwall
/etc/hosts.allow
all : localhost
all : 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0

/etc/hosts.deny
all : all
I've plugged the laptop into the router and it give on it's DHCP table
smoothwall ip address of 192.168.1.2

eth0 the first nic nearest the cpu is connected to the switch.
I think I better go and buy that tcp/ip book this is killing me.
