Anyone know of any CF (compact flash) cell modems that are available in
the US?

Google finds them but mostly available in the UK.

Thanks,

I may have been out of it for awhile but what is a Compact
Flash cell modem? I know of the pcmcia cell modem cards. but before
you flame me please help me understand.\
If its a cellular GSM modem it needs to be able to do 800/1900
mhz frequencies (U.S standard). Sometimes the U.S 800 frequency is
misslabled 850 mhz. But we don't have 900/1800 mhz here in the U.S. If
this card can do 800/900/1800/1900 (quad band) or 900/1800/1900 or
800/1800/1900 (tri-band). you can use it. if the 900/1800/1900 range
you may be stuck with T-mobile which does 1900 mhz here in the U.S.
The other range 800/1800/1900 would allow you to use cingular and
t-mobile. So if this card does those ranges. what does its matter if
it is at the U.K. if the price is good and it has at least the
800/1900 frequencies it should work.

Things like FCC licensing, support, and warranty....

Even the T-Mobile folks here in the US sounded peeved about "all the
cool things T-Mobile Germany has and we can't get"....

That card handles our frequencies. so thats not an issue here.
> Things like FCC licensing, support, and warranty....
Perhaps for you the biggest issue is.. Does Linux support it?
as for FCC Certification... (Do you really want to know what I think
of that... I don't think so!)... its a disposable CE device and liekly
you won't have problems until the U.K warrenty expires anyway. there
are ways to get these devices warranteed. I have not kept on the grey
market practices but like I said above. If Linux supports it, and it
does standard GPRS (kinda slow compared to T-mobiles future UMTS
rollout, which uses the European standard 2100 mhz, even in the
U.S)... If it was me... I would either take my chances and buy the
thing anyway.. or hold out to UMTS gets set up here in the U.S and
look for the faster hardware that is FCC approved.
Most important fact. if you are going to go for it. make sure
you can RETURN it if it does not work for you. If the seller does not
offer a money back policy... forget the whole deal! If he/she/it
does... you can try it, if it works great! if not... you return it and
get your refund.

Sigh, I went to the t-mobile.co.uk web site and some of
the phones are god awful UGLY! I don't have the web address for the
T-mobile germany site.
