Archived from groups: linux>redhat>devel (more info?)

Hello,

I am running Fedora Core 2 Linux. I am curious as to
how come there would be so many versions of the autotools
installed on the system. Is there a particular reason for
having all these versions? Compatibility? Examples anyone?

$ rpm -qa --pipe "grep automake"
automake-1.8.3-1
automake17-1.7.9-2
automake16-1.6.3-2
automake15-1.5-10
automake14-1.4p6-9

$ rpm -qa --pipe "grep autoconf"
autoconf213-2.13-8
autoconf-2.59-3

$ rpm -qa --pipe "grep libtool"
libtool-libs-1.5.6-1
libtool-libs13-1.3.5-9.1
libtool-1.5.6-1

Thank you for your feedback,

Neil
