I don't think that Windows will ever get back to the 95.69% it had 2 years
ago. When a company has practically 100% (or 96% in this case) it's nearly
impossible to maintain such a high number over a prolonged period of time.
OSX has grown to 5.3% and Linux is almost at 1%. Eventually I see OSX
growing a lot, Linux growing a little and Windows leveling off at about
85-90%. We'll all know for sure in good time. |

I just wonder what the next couple of years holds.
These web statistics (imo, of course) are going to show any new trends as
well.
We are already seeing the iPhone being used more and more, and many similar
devices are now in the offing.
This time next year, there is also the possibility that we will start to see
Google Chrome OS, of course.

The stats only go back 2-years to Nov 97 but there was probably some time
when MS "peaked" at greater than 97%. Holding on to that figure just isn't
sustainable whether you're selling operating systems or crayons.

I have an iPod touch that I use for web-browsing, email, etc and my
wife/kids have an iPhone. What I see happening in our household is that over
time web-stats for iPhones/etc will almost definitely increase but not for
the reason most people think. Here at least - it's not that the
iPhone/iTouch is a substitute for a PC, but rather because the iPhone is
used for *additional* web browsing.
What I mean by this is that everyone still does the same amount of web
browsing using their PC or laptop. But the iPhone is now used to supplement
that with additional browsing where before, they simply wouldn't have had
any internet access at all. Statistically this shows "more" iPhones and less
PC's but what's happening here is "the same" amount of PC usage along with
iPhone usage where there used to be nothing at all.

It'll be interesting to see what happens there. Will it replace PC based
usage, replace smart-phone usage or create a new niche category for itself.

Is it - "Change we can believe in?" |

I was pretty sure there must have been a good dozen or so people using OS/2
but I guess there are only five people left

One wonders how much of that traffic is bots.
