Just installed Jaunty and had to disable ipv6 to get it to connect to
the Internet ...I tried to update Jaunty but both apt and synaptic told
me they cannot find the repos yet I can ping all the repos in
/etc/apt/sources.list both by name and ip number. Anyone tell me what is
wrong ?

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty universe
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty universe
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates universe
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty-updates universe

I have just installed intrepid upgraded it and them used the update
manager to upgrade to Jaunty. I can still ping the addresses in the
sources list but when I use apt or synaptic it tells me "cannnot resolve
archives" I have also tried other servers but all say the same..

What happens if you point a browser on the same machine to the
following address?

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/

Thanks for the reply..
The browser will go to the address providing I have edited the
about:config for ipv6 and hashe out the ipv6 entry in
/etc/modprobe.d/aliases..Seems other people have this problem as it is on
the buglist.

Replace "universe" with "main restricted universe multiverse" on each
line where it occurs and you should be OK.

cannot send/receive email nor use pidgin irc as neither will connect.
Seems there is a bug feature on this which has not been solved...

A software firewall hasn't been installed has it? I have seen one
"magically appear" under Debian, even though I did not request one during
installation. Maybe Ubuntu has snuck one in during installation of something.

sudo iptables -L -n

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

There should not be anything listed under any of these headings.

Mark.
