I believe Ubuntu is a form of Debian but can't find a specific Ubuntu
group.
I've download Ubuntu 9.04 desktop ISO twice from two different mirror
sites.
I've used SUSE to burn three disks two from one site and the other one
once to either a CR-R or CR-RW with turned on.
I've tried to boot Ubuntu from all these disks across four different
systems (two desktop and two laptop) and none has worked beyond the
first splash screen and selecting install. The disks usually grind
away with no faults being shown. The same happens when I pick "Try
Ubuntu without any change to your computer"
At the same time I burnt FreeBSD, PING, FreeNAS and these do work on
the same systems as do ordinary audio disks on all these computers.
Why is this happening. |

Yes I did do the MD5.
I downloaded it the first time and burnt a disk which didn't appear to
work.
I downloaded it again from another UK site and burnt the disk twice
once each to a CD-R and CD-RW (incase it was a reflectivity problem).
I can't find an MD5 for the ISO on the Ubuntu website. The creation of
the CD has a top level file with a list of MD5 numbers against some
packages etc. I ran a few of them and they were OK. |

Eliminate the possibilities by using md5sum.
Then, if you still can't get an Ubuntu LiveCD to boot into a live
session, go to a.o.l.ubuntu and ask for assistance.

No Microsoft, Apple, AT&T, Novell, Trend Micro, nor Ford products were used in the preparation or transmission of this message.
The EULA sounds like it was written by a team of lawyers who want to tell me what I can't do. The GPL sounds like it was written by a human being, who wants me to know what I can do. |

Worse things happen in that group. Far worse things.
Being abused in a.o.l.slackware hurts less than being helped in
a.o.l.ubuntu .... |

a.o.l.ubuntu drove me away. Too much noise - not enough signal. It is a
shame because it used to be a nice friendly group. Now it is full of
trolls hurling insults.

There's also the mailing lists that can be accessed through NNTP (like
Usenet) on GMane:

I don't know, but if it's any comfort, I have exactly the same issue.
Tried downloading from Virgin Media and Canonical, both times the CDs
fail in multiple machines, with the same failure symptoms.
MD5 Sums are OK.
I gave up and used Linux Mint instead.

That's a relief. Burnt a disk again with MS Windows this time and it
booted first time. |
