I've just been trying to talk to my Binatone X.350 PNA from Fedora 10
without success. Here's what I see in /var/log/message:
kernel: usb 5-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 34
kernel: usb 5-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
kernel: ipaq 5-2:1.0: PocketPC PDA converter detected
kernel: usb 5-2: PocketPC PDA converter now attached to ttyUSB0
kernel: usb 5-2: New USB device found, idVendor=045e, idProduct=00ce
kernel: usb 5-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): ignoring due to lack of mobile
broadband capabilties
kernel: usb 5-2: USB disconnect, address 34
kernel: ipaq ttyUSB0: PocketPC PDA converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
kernel: ipaq 5-2:1.0: device disconnected
which repeats continuously while the PNA is connected and switched on.
I tried connecting to ttyUSB0 with minicom. It connected automatically
but that didn't stop the loop. It just caused the connection to persist
for a few seconds longer before it was dropped and the loop continued.
Some Windows Mobile PNAs, e.g. the HP 314, have a control panel that
allows them to be switch from using the USB serial connection mode to a
storage device mode, but the X.350 doesn't offer this facility. If I
could stop the
connect--> no mobile broadband--> disconnect
cycle I might have a hope of running its support application under WINE.
Alternatively, if I could somehow switch it to mass storage mode I can
shift files between my F10 box and the PNA using bash scripts
So, I'd like to know:
- what the PocketPC PDA converter and its config files are called
- There used to be a SynCE package, so is this PocketPC PDA converter
anything to do with SynCE?
- how to stop the PDA converter from looking for mobile broadband
since the X.350 doesn't have it.
- how to configure the PDA converter so it switches the PNA into
mass storage mode
Any help along these lines would be most appreciated.

Have you tried unloading and hiding ipaq since that seems to be closing
the USB connection? I know it's the driver but if usb is making a
connection to ttyUSB0 then you might be able to talk to it.

I just tried blacklisting it in /etc/modprobe.conf, which changed the log
segment to this:
kernel: usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
kernel: usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
kernel: usb 5-1: New USB device found, idVendor=045e, idProduct=00ce
kernel: usb 5-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
kernel: usb 5-1: USB disconnect, address 5
IOW, the device is recognised, but the ttyUSB0 serial device is no longer
assigned to it and the PocketPC PDA converter is no longer attached to
the serial device, so that didn't solve it.
Any other suggestions?
