I would suggest that the shell script /usr/bin/opera be updated so as to
include the lastest versions of the Sun jre.

Sun jre is now at version 1.6.0_02 so this ought to be inserted into the
search routine
stanza that starts at this line:
for SUNJAVA in \

To be consistent with the existing shell script, the stanza could be
edited to add this line:
jre1.6.0_02 \

Alternatively, to take into account future updates of jre, this line could
be put into the stanza instead:
latest \

This takes advantage of the symbolic links that the Sun jre packages
insert with each update. The links inserted by the jre1.6.0_02 package
are these:
/usr/java/default -> /usr/java/latest/
/usr/java/latest -> /usr/java/jre1.6.0_02/

Regards,
Clive

Agreed. However, if you look at the script, anything in your
${OPERA_PERSONALDIR}/javapath.txt file will override the search.
So, if you use Tools/Preferences/Content/Advanced Options, to
set the path, the opera startup script will use that, instead
of searching.

True.

But if the path is already in the script, then each user with a separate
account need not be concerned with finding out what is the correct path
and then entering it into
the "Advanced Options" page. A fortiori where users may be new to linux.
