Hello there,
I use Slack 13 with Alsa on a computer with a HDA Intel sound card.
After running "alsaconf" and made a "alsactl store" everything look good and
I have sound (xmms, amarok etc...).
Kmix is adjusted with the pcm channel as main setting (I have only two
adjustable slider's for output in kmix, pcm and pc speacker).
The strange thing is that the general volume setting (pcm channel set with
kmix) did not act when playing music with amarok, and also did not act to
system sounds of kde.
Same with the default settings of xmms but it woks if i select Alsa as
output in xmms's config.
It works for other application like flashplayer...
Any idea where to look for solve the problem ?
Thanks.

For audio, my laptop has HDA Intel and HDA ATI HDMI intel. The vol is
working fine with the HDA Intel PCM (even vol -/+ buttons on laptop
working), but the problem I'm having with it is that it doesn't mute when
I plug headphones in. Audio continue through the speakers and heaphones
after plugging headphones in. Muting causes both to mute. Getting the
same behavior in all my Linuxes and have casually/briefly read that it
was a common prob with HDA Intel. Fixin' it is on the the "To Do
Something Later" list... |

For HDA devices, ALSA uses the software-volume plugin if the driver did
not find a "PCM" control, but this works only if the application uses
the default ALSA configuration.
Try configuring KDE to use the ALSA device named "default".

Is that a hardware issue? 3.5mm sockets have contacts arranged so that you
put them in the line to the speakers and the act of insering the plug cuts
the speakers out of the circuit.
