Dear readers,
I have here Suse 11.1, with KDE4 (4.2), with an irritating screenlock.
In systemsettings at tab screensaver I have unchecked "ask for password" but
it does not, also when I uncheck "start automatically" nor the screensaver nor
the screenlock will listen.
Any help?
Kind Regards,
Peter

Do the command "ps -ef|grep screensaver" in a terminal window.
If you see either
xscreensaver
or
gnome-screensaver
you're NOT using the KDE screensaver but another one, which is NOT
controlled from the KDE Control center.
I haven't found out how kdm decides "which one to start" yet, but here
in a normal full KDE/KDM session I do get the gnome-screensaver instead
of the KDE one.
xscreensaver is controlled by the screensaver-demo program, the gnome
one probably from one of the gnome settings programs.

Ok, when you run
rpm -qa |grep screens
which one(s) of the following do you see
kdeartwork3-kscreensaver-3.5.10-1.62
kdeartwork3-xscreensaver-3.5.10-1.62
kdeartwork4-screensaver-4.1.3-1.26
xscreensaver-5.07-6.41
gnome-screensaver-2.24.0-7.7
(note especially the difference between the first two, it is only one
char) do you see?
kdeartwork4-screensaver-4.1.3-1.26
I do not know of myself, we do NOT use kde 4 here yet at all,
but you can see that onlike kde3 there are no two versions anymore,
just the one "screensaver", while kde3 made a difference between
"kscreensaver" and "xscreensaver".
But anyway, whatever you see you may try to UNinstall it.
In kde 3 it is kdesktop_lock that does the actual locking
(located in /opt/kde3/bin), which is in the kdebase3 package,
but the screensave "activates" it.
This may be different in KDE 4, though.

I was seeing the same issue in KDE4.3 It turns out it was actually
KPowerSave that was doing it on my system. I right clicked the little
"power-plug" icon in my system tray, and clicked Configure KPowerSave.
Then I unchecked the part about the screensaver, and on the Options
tab, under screen lock, there was another box to uncheck. Now - no
more screen saver, or screen lock unless I lock it.
Hope that helps. |
