Hi,

I have two pending membership requests on Alioth:

Marc-Andre Lureau (elmarco-guest)
Hendrik Frenzel (hfrenzel-guest)

Marc-Andre, Hendric: Could you please introduce yourselves, tell us
what do you/have you/will you do, or why do you want to join the
pkg-perl group?

Greetings,

Hi,

Ok, so I'm adding you as of right now - Welcome aboard!

Now, about the packages you propose: The group's goal is to support
Perl modules in Debian - libfile-next-perl would be a welcome addition
to the repository. The only package we currently have that's a tool
and not a module is dh-make-perl - but we addded it because its _goal_
is to package modules, and it just makes sense Wink

Now, it's not that I'm deciding on behalf of everybody that 'ack'
should not enter our repository (everybody has their voice, and it
might be worthy to add some other packages - I don't suggest going
that way, but we could debate on it), it's just that it not what we
currently do.

Greetings,

This was in fact a source of confusion for me.

It seems to be a bit of a hybrid. Andy Lester obviously has a good
deal of programming experience and built himself a tool to use as a
partial replacement to grep but it seems he built it so it might be
extensible and fit within the standard module format.

I kind of agree - it looks like the module's _only_ real purpose is
for ack the application. At least at this point, perhaps if it gets
used by other modules it might be seen as something else than just an
application packaged as a module.

This is the part that I find a bit confusing frankly. I feel I don't
have the experience with packaging for debian to be able to add
constructively to the discussion at the moment.
