Hi,

I just got an Acer eMachines E520-2496. They advertised it with Linux, but they didn't say there was no GUI. I'm too new for that, but the computer seems worth keeping. Can anyone help me find and install something useful? Should I just install a different distro?

The system reads: Linpus Linux LiveCD 9.2 (...080801av1). It boots to the command prompt, with some errors along the way and I'm only just learing commands so there's not much I can do.

Thanks for any help,
Tony

Thanks anyway, I gave up on Linux. I didn't have a few years to teach myself the way I did 16 years ago when I learned MS DOS, which only took a couple months. I bought Win XP & everythings fine, except, I'm using micro$oft, and paying for an OS.

Hi, Linpus, I just got the same notebook and I did that with Linpus Linux 9.6. It looks like a viable OS for a desktop machine but it doesn't know about machines that move.

For one thing, it doesn't recognize the wireless; it thinks I have two wired adapters. For another, it doesn't know that tapping on a touchpad should simulate a left click.

Is Linpus Linux Lite smarter about laptops? If so, can we download utilities and applications to make it less light?
