Linux noob, not computer noob. Been using IBM's OS/2 since Warp 3.
Time to start migrating to Linux. My problem happens on two different
P4 machines, one desktop, one laptop. Tried two different distros,
Mint 10, and Ububtu 10.10......when the install gets to the 'Who are
you' page, I fill in the required info but it will not highlight
'foward' in order to continue. I've even waited until all the file
copying to that point has finished, but no go on 'foward'. Re-
downloaded both distros and all 4 CD's are fine. I have Virtual PC for
OS/2 and tried installing them in a virtual machine also. Same hang,
same spot, total of 12 installs attempted. Both distros run fine from
the CD.
Suggestions, tips, frustration relievers, solutions???, help!!

You could try the Ubuntu Alternate Install .iso... It's text based
and would probably be more indicative of what's happening. You may need
to look into setting the Other Options (F4 I think) ACPI, APCI on/off
etc. BUt other than that I have *buntu running on an old PIII (server
edition).

Have you consulted the on-line docs for each distro? They probably
have a wiki and all sorts of information on dealing with install
glitches. They also probably have webforums where you can ask
for help from people who know these distros very well.

I'd consider a standard installation, rather than trying to
install a live CD to disk. I've tried that a few times and
always been disappointed in the results.

Sounds frustrating as hell. Good luck. Don't give up. Linux is
the best.

When I moved from OS/2 to Linux over 10 years ago I had to reset various Bios
setting, one I remember was the reference to OS/2 and unset that, you might
also want to check your settings (if any) for the IDE/Sata controller, eg,
mode. Having tried the OS/2 switch look at those but only change ONE switch
at a time making a note of each change.

Silly me... was using a capital letter in user name. Passed right over
that in the docs first time around. my bad. I would have thought they
could have a warning message stating such, but....
Anyway, thanks to all who responded with suggestions. Up and running
now.
And away we go...........

Had to reply this on separately....Wow, that is an oldie. Haven't seen
the OS/2 bios switch in over 15 years. Don't think it was too long
after that when it was no longer used. Up and runing now (refer to
solved post) Thanks
