I am trying to install from Debian Testing netinst iso on an old
Powerbook G4 using the 'hd-media' kernel, initrd and yaboot.conf from

http://people.debian.org/~wouter/d-i/powerpc/daily/powerpc/hd-media/

I have tried several recent daily builds, all with the same result.
Latest is 2007-07-29. Boot is successful and I choose the language OK,
but then get the following when choosing the keyboard:

Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: INFO: Menu item 'kbd-chooser' selected
Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: INFO: Falling back to the package description for console-keymaps-usb
Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: INFO: Falling back to the package description for console-keymaps-at
Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: INFO: Falling back to the package description for console-keymaps-usb
Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: INFO: Falling back to the package description for console-keymaps-at
Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: (process:1308): kbd-chooser: relocation error: kbd-chooser: symbol sprintf, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: WARNING **: Configuring 'kbd-chooser'failed with error code 127
Jan 1 00:02:44 main-menu[1016]: WARNING **: Menu item 'kbd-chooser' failed.
Jan 1 00:02:45 main-menu[1016]: DEBUG: resolver (libc6): package doesn't exist (ignored)
Jan 1 00:02:45 main-menu[1016]: DEBUG: resolver (dhcp3-client-udeb):
package doesn't exist (ignored)

The installer successfully finds and mounts the netinst iso but
fails again at the next stage with similar errors to the above:

Jan 1 00:03:57 main-menu[1016]: (process:6951): anna: relocation error: anna: symbol asprintf, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file
libc.so.6 with link time reference
Jan 1 00:03:57 main-menu[1016]: WARNING **: Configuring 'load-iso' failed with error code 127
Jan 1 00:03:57 main-menu[1016]: WARNING **: Menu item 'load-iso'
failed.

The Powerbook is old and clunky (in fact the CD drive does not work,
which is why I am trying to install from USB) so I am reluctant to
claim a bug. But I do see some earlier reports of installation
problems with libc and wonder if this is related.

thanks for any advice.

Nigel

I am seeing the same problem with todays netboot image, so i suggest you
file a bug report against d-i or something. I suppose that the current
d-i are built with an incompatible libc or an mklibs problem.

Just filled a bug report.
