Hi all,
I tried to install Debian 5.0.1 testing but cannot configure the network
manually (no dhcp here). While the stable net install works, testing does
not (DVD 1 per 4-May, tried on two laptops and 1 PC, which all worked under
sidux). I'm about to check stable DVD 1 but anyway wonder what the trick is
to get testing working.
Kind regards

When the installer informs you that it cannot obtain an IP, select the
"Back" button (<Tab> to it), hit <Enter>, and then you will be at a
screen asking if you want to configure manually.

The EULA sounds like it was written by a team of lawyers who want to tell me what I can't do. The GPL sounds like it was written by a human being, who wants me to know what I can do. |

And, some mention of the OP's hardware would be welcome if that
doesn't help.

Sorry, forgot about that, shame on me.
Machine 1:
acer notebook TravelMate 4050 (several years old now, but still pretty well
usable, especially w/ Linux). Network card built in: Realtek Ethernet
Controller 8139.
Machine 2:
Dell Inspiron 7500 (over 10 years old, with LXDE barely usable), Net work
card: Xircom Cardbus Card to be plugged into a PCMCIA slot (as old as the
computer).
Machine 3:
A PC, no special components. Cannot tell anything about it right now,
because in an other building 10 km away from me. Machine is a few years old
(so again, no brand new hw components).
Kind regards

Did so, filled in all the info needed, but the installer only told me that
the step failed (didn't show details telling why).
The machine runs now Debian stable, because that could be installed.
Kind regards
